OFFENBACH, HESSEN - March 19, 2011 - The American Women's Club of the Taunus' Annual Spring Charity Event: "Together, A Brighter Future" raises over 20,000 Euros.

On Saturday, March 19 the American Women's Club of the Taunus held a Spring Charity Gala and Silent Auction to benefit the START Stiftung gGmbH. Held at the Sheraton Hotel's Am Bürsing Palais in Offenbach, this year's event exceeded expectations, raising over €20,000 to fund four START scholarships for gifted immigrant students in Frankfurt with financial need. The AWCT's Mother's Corner contributed €500 and the AWCT itself donated €5000 to the cause.

"Every year our members look forward to this event, and this year was no exception! It's just one of the ways we can give back to our host country," said AWCT President Elaine Kuether. Each scholarship funds computers, books, educational and vocational seminars, and other educational costs associated with a high school education. The goal is to help immigrant children overcome the odds to achieve their Abitur and successfully integrate into German society.

The evening began with an elegant cocktail reception with music by the Jeff Green International Jazz & Ragtime Trio. A scrumptious dinner was followed by introductions from AWCT President Elaine Kuether, START Stiftung Geschäftsführerin Andrea Bartl, and scholarship recipients Maria von Behring and Ilker Katar. During the night, guests had the opportunity to bid at live and silent auctions for exciting prizes donated by local sponsors and club members. Prizes included hotel stays, spa treatments, a pilot experience on the Lufthansa A380 flight simulator, and a generous 12-person cooking class contributed by Mirko Reeh, celebrity chef and TV personality, who attended the Gala.

The Spring Charity Gala is one of many festivities planned this year to commemorate the AWCT's 40th Anniversary. The AWCT has donated hundreds of thousands  of Euros to various Main-Taunus charities and groups over 40 years, including the Höchst Kinderklinik, Vita Assistenzhunde e.V. and AIDS Hilfe.
